About the Position

The Commissariat à l'Énergie Atomique et aux Énergies Alternatives (CEA) is seeking a motivated and skilled engineer to work on the European MINERVA project. This position offers an opportunity to collaborate with leading European institutions and contribute to cutting-edge research at the intersection of HPC (High-Performance Computing) and AI (Artificial Intelligence).

The MINERVA project aims to establish a European-wide support center for HPC-powered AI applications. This initiative bridges the gap between the capabilities of state-of-the-art HPC infrastructures and the demands of AI researchers and developers. MINERVA focuses on advancing large-scale AI model development, including open-source foundation models, by leveraging HPC systems for superior scalability and performance.

Key Responsibilities

  1. User Support and Training:
  2. Provide technical expertise and support to users deploying large-scale AI workflows on HPC systems.
  3. Develop training materials and conduct workshops to bridge the knowledge gap in the AI community regarding HPC utilization.
  4. Development and Optimization:
  5. Contribute to the adaptation and fine-tuning of AI foundation models for European research and industry needs.
  6. Develop and execute benchmarking methodologies to evaluate the performance of AI models across diverse HPC architectures.
  7. Analyze and document performance metrics to identify bottlenecks and suggest optimizations for enhanced scalability and efficiency.
  8. Collaboration and Dissemination:
  9. Work closely with international partners to align research activities with MINERVA's objectives.
  10. Contribute to best practice guides, technical documentation, and peer-reviewed publications.
  11. Represent the project in conferences, meetings, and community events.

Qualifications

Educational Background:

  • PhD or Master degree in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Computational Science, or a related field, with expertise in HPC or AI.

Technical Skills:

  • Strong programming skills in Python, C++, or similar languages, with experience in parallel computing frameworks such as MPI or CUDA.
  • Familiarity with AI/ML frameworks (e.g., TensorFlow, PyTorch) and their optimization for HPC platforms.
  • Knowledge of HPC systems and architectures (e.g., GPU-based or many-core systems).

Other Skills:

  • Experience with data preparation, large-scale model fine-tuning, and deployment on HPC.
  • Excellent problem-solving, teamwork, and communication skills.
